Does this generation have a mature faith?
Hey y'all! So this past week, Thursday-Saturday I went to my first Women's Retreat/Conference at my church! Let me just tell y'all how the Lord is really working on me because I went by myself. Now, if you knew me, you'd know why that is such a big deal lol. I am extremely shy but thank God for change and boldness to seek Him no matter where I have to go. Anyhow, the retreat was nothing short of amazing! The theme was "Woman of God Maturing in Our Faith" with the themes scripture coming from 2 Peter 3:8. The first night was on "A Mature Faith", with the Pastor preaching from Hebrews 6:9-12. When I say this sermon was so convicting and on time! Pastor Alvarado preached on our generation having so many ways to hear from God and receive His word, but yet we are the most immature generation (picture that). She went on to say that "we can quote more bible than we can live it".
This made me think about all of the ways we can get to God. We've got the good old fashioned bible, the bible app, social media (Facebook and Facebook live (posts and sermons; Instagram, Twitter, Periscope) , YouTube (endless sermons, vlogs, teachings, music, etc.), radio, and television. There are probably some I did not name but you get the point. I question if we take all of these resources for granted or if we've now put all of the resources in the place of good old fashioned prayer, faith, and true intimacy and relationship with God? Could it now be a paradox of the modern day technology, information, and advances that one would think would lead to a richer more spiritual and deeper connection with God, has led us further away from Him? I posted one day on my Instagram, that if we prayed as much as we liked, scrolled, and commented we'd be some powerful people of God.
So what do you think? Do you agree with Pastor Alvarado's assertion that our generation is less mature spiritually than those of the old? Do we know more bible, have the ability to quote more scriptures, but if someone were to actually examine our lives would we be living what we know and what we've read from the word?Do we have faith or do we crumble and cower in fear as soon as trials and tribulations arise? I would love to hear from you! I'm curious to know what other believers think about this issue.
